Brookhaven holds memorial for 23rd anniversary of 9/11 attacks

Farmingville, NY – On September 11, Supervisor Dan Panico led a memorial service to honor the nearly 3,000 people who perished as a result of the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, DC, and at Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The ceremony was held at the 9/11 Memorial Garden at Brookhaven Town Hall and included the traditional ringing of the fire bell by Chief Fire Marshal Chris Mehrman in memory of the first responders who heroically gave their lives in the line of duty.

Authorities seek public's help in identifying vandals at Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Park

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico and Councilman Neil Foley have called on residents to assist in identifying three young males suspected of vandalizing the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Park at Lake Ronkonkoma. The incident, which involved graffiti and the spray painting of a security camera, occurred on the night of September 2 after 8:00 pm. The suspects were seen driving a dark-colored sedan of an unknown make and model.

Brookhaven to celebrate history at annual country fair

The Town of Brookhaven will host its annual Country Fair on September 21 and 22 at the historic Longwood Estate in Ridge, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The event will include historic re-enactments, demonstrations, food, entertainment by the Ed Travers Band, craft vendors, children’s activities, a Tesla Museum exhibit, a dog show, a vintage apron show, and house museum tours. Admission is $5 per person. Children under 12 are free and will receive a "Passport to the Past." Parking is free with a complimentary shuttle service from Longwood Junior High School. Town Clerk Kevin LaValle has announced the launch of his “Talking History with the Town Clerk” video series, starting with a tour of the Davis Meeting House in Coram. The video features insights from Town Historian Barbara Russell, researcher Lynne Scofield, and Interim President Suzanne Johnson from the Town of Brookhaven Davis Town Meeting House Historical Society.

Councilwoman Bonner attends grand opening of Silver Dollar Pottery in Rocky Point

Farmingville, NY - On August 16, Councilwoman Jane Bonner attended the grand opening of Silver Dollar Pottery & Crafts, located at 569 Route 25A in Rocky Point. The owner, Patricia Patten, received a $25,000 Main Street Revitalization Grant from PSEG Long Island to help establish her business. The studio aims to inspire creativity and provide a welcoming environment for artists of all levels. Representatives from PSEG, Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio's office, and Legislator Chad Lennon's office were also present.
