The best water in the county comes from the Suffolk Water Authority, according to 240 participants in last week's drinking water contest at Farmingdale State College. Sponsored by the Long Island Water Conference (LIWC), the 36th Annual Drinking Water Tasting Contest featured dozens of public providers in a blind taste test.

Panico Packs Powerful Punch In Fight Against Signs Plastered Across Brookhaven

You can't miss them while driving in and around the South Shore: lawn signs plastered all over the community on light poles and right of ways, pushing everything from power washing to bathtub reglazing to cars for sale.They're not only an eyesore, but they're also placed around town illegally.In an effort to maintain clean communities, Brookhaven Supervisor Dan Panico led the charge along with local leaders to trash the illegally placed signs and spruce up the area.Supervisor Panico was joined by Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro, Councilman Neil A Manzella, Councilwoman Karen Dunne Kesnig, Councilman Neil Foley, and Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich.The community wide cleanup was a huge success, with public officials nearly filling a 40-yard dumpster.

Operation Smoke Out Nets Vape Arrests

Suffolk shops selling vape products to minors found out how seriously county officials take such offenses as "Operation Smoke Out," which led to a crackdown that netted 3,000 illegal devices and the arrest of four merchants. Of the 53 establishments recently checked by police, 30% were found to have broken the law in what officials said was the second-largest confiscation of vapes in county history.
