A major milestone was reached this week as Joe Thatcher collected his 100th career hit for St. Joseph's University. The accomplishment came during Sunday’s doubleheader against SUNY Old Westbury, adding another memorable chapter to an already impressive collegiate career.
Thatcher, a graduate of MacArthur High School in Nassau County, has been a steady presence in the lineup since arriving at St. Joseph’s. Now a junior, he has developed into one of the team’s most dependable and productive players.
This season, Thatcher has already earned Skyline Weekly Honorable Mention recognition, continuing a trend of success that began last year. During the 2025 campaign, he was named to the Skyline Conference All-Conference Second Team. He also earned Skyline Player of the Week honors and was selected twice to the Skyline Weekly Honor Roll.
His numbers from last season showed just how valuable he was to the program. Thatcher started 31 games and recorded 45 hits in 120 at-bats. Among those hits were nine doubles, five triples, and five home runs, showcasing both consistency and power at the plate.
He finished the season with an outstanding .375 batting average, a .424 on-base percentage, and a .658 slugging percentage. Thatcher also scored 35 runs while driving in 25 RBIs, proving he could both create and capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Defensively, he was equally reliable, posting 12 putouts and four assists. His all-around game has made him an important contributor on both sides of the ball.
Reaching 100 career hits is a milestone that reflects talent, preparation, and sustained excellence over multiple seasons. For Thatcher, it is another reward for years of hard work dating back to his days at MacArthur and continuing through his collegiate career.
With more games still ahead this season, the Long Island standout now has the chance to add even more accomplishments to an already decorated résumé.
