The Bay Shore Girls Varsity Track Team continues to shine on the big stage, and leading the way is standout distance runner Maggie McCormick.

McCormick added another major accomplishment to her already impressive résumé this past week, capturing the state championship in the 1,500-meter run. The victory is the latest in a long line of achievements for the Bay Shore star, who has consistently been one of the top distance runners in the region—and the country.

Earlier this season, McCormick earned national recognition when she was named National Girls Indoor Performer of the Week by MileSplit USA for the week of December 29, 2025, through January 4, 2026. Her performance during that stretch helped solidify her status as one of the nation’s elite high school runners.

During the winter season, McCormick turned heads at the Hispanic Games, held at The Armory. Competing in the mile championship race, she posted a time of 4:48, setting a new indoor personal best. It marked her second time breaking the 4:50 barrier and was an impressive eight seconds faster than her performance at the same meet the year prior.

She didn’t stop there. Just two days later, McCormick delivered another standout showing at the Section XI Girls Crossover D meet, competing in the 600-meter championship. She clocked a 1:40.55, nearly five seconds faster than her previous personal best and her first time racing the event since 2024.

In addition to her success on the track, McCormick has also been recognized for her achievements in the classroom. She was recently honored as a Scholar Athlete by News 12 Long Island, an award given weekly to one outstanding student-athlete.

A three-time All-State distance runner, McCormick has also earned nine All-County honors and has served as a team captain since ninth grade. With her latest state title, she continues to build a legacy as one of Bay Shore’s all-time greats.
