Floyd Has Late Season Scoring Surge

WF Lax | William Floyd School District

The William Floyd Boys Lacrosse team closed out its season on a high note, riding a late scoring surge to finish with momentum and confidence.

The Colonials wrapped up the year with a 10-6 overall record and an 8-6 mark in league play, but those numbers only tell part of the story. This was a team that improved steadily as the season progressed, peaking at just the right time. William Floyd won three straight games to end the season and took four of its final five contests overall.

More impressively, the Colonials didn’t just win—they dominated offensively. The team scored 19 goals in three of those four victories and added 13 in the other, showcasing a potent attack that overwhelmed opponents down the stretch. In total, William Floyd poured in an eye-opening 79 goals over its final four games, a stretch that highlighted just how dangerous the offense became late in the season.

Leading the charge was Marc Pluchino, who capped off a strong campaign by ranking eighth in Suffolk County in total points while also finishing ninth in goals scored. His consistent production was a key factor in the team’s late-season success.

Playmaking also played a major role, with Matt Filosa finishing among the county leaders with 23 assists. He was joined by Ryan Murtha and PJ Gilhauley, who recorded 22 and 21 assists, respectively, as the Colonials moved the ball effectively and created scoring opportunities.

While the offense stole the spotlight, the defense and goaltending also contributed. Matt Shaw finished the season ranked among the top 25 in Suffolk County in saves, providing a steady presence in net.

With a strong finish and several standout individual performances, the Colonials head into the offseason with plenty to build on after a season that showed significant growth and promise.
