A well-deserved honor is heading to Patchogue-Medford High School, as girls varsity basketball head coach Leighann Gallagher has been named Coach of the Year for the 2025–2026 season by the Suffolk County Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

Gallagher’s recognition comes after another strong season leading the Raiders, where her leadership and commitment helped guide the program to continued success. Known for her dedication both on and off the court, Gallagher has played a key role in developing her student-athletes and building a competitive, team-first culture.

In a statement shared on the district’s social media page, school officials praised her efforts, saying, “The district congratulates Coach Gallagher on this well-deserved honor and commends her remarkable leadership, dedication, and hard work.” The statement went on to highlight her impact on the program, adding that “Coach Gallagher’s leadership, dedication, and commitment to her student-athletes continue to elevate the Patchogue-Medford girls basketball program and represent Raider pride at the highest level.”

Under Gallagher’s guidance, the Raiders have remained a respected presence in Suffolk County, consistently competing at a high level while emphasizing teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship. This latest recognition not only reflects the team’s achievements this past season but also the lasting impression Gallagher has made on the Patchogue-Medford community. From developing talent to fostering a positive environment, her influence extends far beyond the scoreboard.

As the program looks ahead to next season, Gallagher’s leadership will once again be a driving force. For now, though, the spotlight is rightfully on a coach who continues to make a difference both on the court and in the lives of her players.
