Miller Place Duo on the Scoring Leaderboard

MP Basketball Duo | Tom Barton

Miller Place basketball features two of Suffolk County’s top 25 scorers this season in Dylan Riegel and Ryan Khezri, an impressive distinction that places the Panthers among an elite group. Only three other schools in the county can claim two players ranked inside the top 25 in scoring: Southampton, East Hampton, and Smithtown West. Having that level of offensive firepower makes Miller Place a difficult matchup on any given night.

Riegel has been the team’s leading scorer, averaging 17.9 points per game while knocking down 19 three-pointers so far this season. His ability to stretch the floor and score from deep has made him a constant threat for opposing defenses. Khezri has been just as effective, averaging 16.9 points per game and connecting on 10 shots from beyond the arc. Together, they provide a balanced perimeter attack that keeps defenses honest and opens opportunities for the rest of the lineup.

While Miller Place’s overall record may not be where the team hoped it would be at this point in the season, there have been clear signs of progress. The Panthers have lost each of their last four games by 10 points or fewer, showing improved competitiveness and resilience. In their most recent outing, Miller Place nearly completed a dramatic comeback before falling just short against rival Mount Sinai.

Those narrow losses suggest the Panthers are trending in the right direction as they continue to gain experience and confidence. With Riegel and Khezri leading the way offensively, Miller Place will look to turn close games into wins as the schedule moves forward.

The Panthers will have an opportunity to do just that next week when they face Hampton Bays and Amityville, before taking on another familiar rival in Rocky Point.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
