Students in Dina Pinelli's fourth grade class at Edith L. Slocum Elementary School in the Connetquot Central School District celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by researching famous Hispanic people. The students learned about Pablo Picasso, Cesar Chavez, Oscar De La Hoya, Dolores Huerta, Celia Cruz, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sonia Sotomayor and Frida Kahlo. On their Chromebooks, students filled out a graphic organizer with important and interesting facts about the person. They then took their notes and filled in a flag which they decorated colorfully. Man sentenced for manslaughter after fatal New Year's Eve shooting
Detrich Emanuel, 31, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with an additional five years of post-release supervision. This follows his guilty plea in August 2024 to Manslaughter in the First Degree for the fatal shooting of Kristine Costantino on New Year’s Eve in 2023. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the sentencing.
Moriches Elementary celebrates student readers with awards
Moriches Elementary School recently held an event to recognize students in grades K-5 who participated in the voluntary summer reading program.
