As millions of Americans filed their taxes by the April 15th, 2026 deadline, the scope of the nation’s tax system comes into focus.
Each year, well over 150 million individual federal tax returns are filed, generating trillions in revenue for the federal government, including roughly $2.8 trillion in individual income taxes alone.
In New York State, approximately ten to 11 million taxpayers file returns annually, contributing more than $60 billion in personal income tax revenue, by far the state’s largest funding source.
Against that backdrop, the Suffolk County and Brookhaven Town Republican Committees released the following Tax Day message:

While families across Suffolk County and America sit down to file their taxes, there’s a very different story this year, one of real relief, real savings, and real results.As Ronald Reagan wisely said, “The best way to reduce the tax burden on the American people is to reduce the growth of government.
”Today, that vision is alive and well.Thanks to Republicans in both chambers of Congress and the leadership of Donald Trump, the “Big Beautiful Bill” has delivered the largest tax cut in American history, and middle-class families are beginning to see it where it matters most: their refunds and their bottom line.
This landmark legislation includes:
✔️ Up to $3,000 in tax relief for middle-class families
✔️ A 400% increase in the SALT deduction cap, bringing long-overdue relief to taxpayers here in New York
✔️ No Tax on Tips
✔️ No Tax on OT
✔️ Expanded child tax credits to support working parents
✔️ Lower income tax rates across the board
✔️ Incentives for small businesses, fueling local job creation and wage growth
✔️ Doubled standard deduction, simplifying filing and increasing take-home pay
So as you file this year, we urge you: take a closer look at your return.You may very well find that your refund is larger, your tax burden is lighter, and your financial outlook is stronger thanks to Republicans in office, like Congressmen Nick LaLota and Andrew Garbarino.
Despite the mainstream media’s continued effort to downplay, distort or outright ignore these benefits, the truth is undeniable, these tax cuts are working for American families.
And let’s not forget: every Democrat in Congress voted AGAINST this historic relief, AGAINST higher refunds, AGAINST SALT relief, and AGAINST the financial well-being of middle-class taxpayers.
(April 15th) is Tax Day, but for millions of Americans, it feels a lot more like Tax Relief Day.
Republicans made a promise, and Republicans delivered.
