The Patchogue-Medford Library is providing free decorating supplies to residents ahead of the Village of Patchogue’s July 4 parade as part of the America 250 celebration.
The library is giving away ribbons, pinwheels, garlands and other décor so kids can prepare their wagons and bikes for the parade, which kicks off at noon in the Village of Patchogue.
“We’re asking our patrons if they’d like to march with us. Anyone who is looking to march in the parade can pick up a decorating kit at the library any time this month, and they can decorate a wagon or bike or anything that they would like to use to celebrate,” said Library Director Danielle Paisley.
Lineup for the Lions Club-sponsored parade begins at 11 a.m. at West Avenue and Main Street, she said, with float judging at 11:15 a.m.
“We’re hoping to get a great turnout,” Paisley said. “We have a bunch of families that are going to join us but we could use more.”
Also in the spirit of America 250, both the Patchogue and Medford sites have been providing kits for family art projects, which will be displayed throughout the summer.
The library has been hosting a wide variety of 250-themed events since April, she said. Still to come this month are Hometown Explorers: A Tour of Patriot Graves on Saturday, June 13; and Patriotic Paper Wreaths on Saturday, June 27.
Some July highlights will be The Savvy Sightseer program on Wednesday, July 1, featuring national sights of interest like Washington, D.C.; and 1776 Comes to Life: A Soldier’s Story, an interactive experience on Saturday, July 11, in Medford.
