Three wrestlers from Bellport High School delivered outstanding performances at the New York State Wrestling Championships, earning top honors and All-State recognition.
Boys varsity wrestler Camryn Howard captured his second state championship as a sophomore, completing a dominant run through the tournament without allowing a single point to be scored against him. With the victory, Howard adds another milestone to an already remarkable career. He is now a two-time state champion, a four-time Suffolk County champion and All-State selection. Howard has also achieved success on the national and international stages, earning a USA Wrestling Fargo Nationals championship and becoming a double champion at the Pan American U16 Championships.
Girls varsity wrestler Aaliyah Morrow also reached the top of the podium, earning her first state championship after scoring 39 offensive points during the tournament while holding her opponents scoreless. In addition to her state title, Morrow is a two-time county champion and a two-time All-State honoree, continuing to establish herself as one of the top wrestlers in the state.
Fellow girls varsity wrestler Caitlin Maragioglio earned All-State recognition with a third-place finish at the state tournament. Maragioglio’s strong performance adds to an already impressive resume that includes being a two-time county finalist, a county champion, and a two-time All-State selection. She has also earned All-American honors at the USA Wrestling Fargo Nationals.
All three wrestlers are dedicated not only to their sport but also to their academics, each maintaining a grade point average above 100.
The athletes were celebrated by the South Country Central School District this week with a parade that stopped at each of the district’s schools. District officials also congratulated the wrestlers on social media and wished them continued success in the future.
