William Floyd basketball made program history this weekend as both the boys and girls teams advanced to the Suffolk County championship games. Although neither team was able to capture the county title, the Colonials still capped off memorable seasons and showcased the strength of the program on Long Island’s biggest stage.

The boys team fell to a strong Bay Shore squad, 61-58, in a tightly contested game that came down to the final moments. William Floyd struggled early and trailed 22-11 after the first quarter, but the Colonials responded with a strong second quarter to tie the game by halftime.

The second half remained a back-and-forth battle. Both teams exchanged baskets down the stretch, and William Floyd had an opportunity to tie the game in the closing seconds. Bay Shore, however, was able to hold on and secure the narrow victory.

Despite the loss, the Colonials finished the season with an impressive 21 wins between the regular season and playoffs. Their strong performance throughout the year earned them an at-large bid to the New York State tournament. William Floyd will now travel to Binghamton to face the winner of the Section IV championship as their postseason run continues.

The girls team also reached the county final but came up short against Walt Whitman, falling 57-41. While the result was not what the Colonials hoped for, the team still completed one of the most successful seasons in program history.

William Floyd finished the year with 19 wins and several notable achievements. Most importantly, the Colonials reached the Suffolk County championship game for the first time in the history of the girls basketball program.

Although neither team captured a county title, both playoff runs highlighted a landmark season for William Floyd basketball and established a strong foundation for the future of the program.
