All Abilities Fair Welcomes Local Families

All Abilities Awareness Fair, | Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library

The Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library welcomed dozens of families for its All Abilities Awareness Fair, an afternoon dedicated to promoting inclusion, accessibility and community connection at the main library in Shirley.

The event featured a variety of resource and sensory tables, hands-on activities and informational exhibits designed to support individuals of all abilities and their families. Attendees had the opportunity to connect directly with local organizations that provide services, programs and advocacy throughout the community.

A highlight of the afternoon was a presentation by special guest Rohan Murphy, a Paralympian wrestler and motivational speaker.

Murphy shared his personal story of perseverance and resilience, encouraging children and adults alike to embrace challenges and focus on their strengths.

His message of determination and self-confidence resonated strongly with families in attendance.

In addition to Murphy’s presentation, families met trained service dogs and learned about the important roles they play in supporting individuals with disabilities.

Children and parents also explored interactive sensory activities that provided engaging, hands-on experiences in a welcoming environment.

Library officials said the fair reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to inclusive programming that meets the needs of all residents.

By bringing together families, service providers and advocates under one roof, the event aimed to foster greater understanding and celebrate the diversity of abilities within the community.

Throughout the afternoon, the library buzzed with conversation as parents gathered information, children participated in activities and community members strengthened connections.

Organizers described the event as both educational and empowering, offering practical resources while reinforcing the importance of acceptance and inclusion.

The All Abilities Awareness Fair is one of several initiatives the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library hosts each year to ensure its programs and services remain accessible and responsive to the entire community.
