McGuire Wins Offensive Player of the Year

Molly McGuire | Eastport-South Manor Central School District

At a recent awards dinner, senior captain of the Eastport South Manor varsity field hockey team, Molly McGuire, was selected as the Suffolk County Division II Offensive Player of the Year. McGuire also earned All-State honors, further cementing her status as one of the county’s elite players. Throughout the season, she proved to be one of Suffolk County’s most dangerous offensive threats, consistently creating scoring chances and producing at a high level.

McGuire finished her final high school season with 20 goals and 14 assists, numbers that reflect both her scoring ability and her vision on the field. Her combination of speed, skill, and instincts made her a constant challenge for opposing defenses. The Eastport South Manor website praised her offensive impact, stating, “Her attack skills at the right wing position were tough to defend, and she was a threat with her fast offensive movement toward the goal.” That assessment rang true game after game, as McGuire routinely forced teams to adjust their defensive schemes to account for her presence.

Beyond her individual accolades, McGuire played a crucial role in the sustained success of the Eastport South Manor field hockey program. She was an integral part of two county championship teams during her high school career, providing leadership, experience, and production when it mattered most. As a senior captain, she set the tone both on and off the field, serving as a role model for her teammates through her work ethic and competitive drive.

McGuire’s athletic journey will continue at the collegiate level, as she has decided to attend SUNY Cortland. While her high school career was highlighted by her success in field hockey, she will transition to women’s lacrosse at Cortland, showcasing her versatility and athleticism. As she moves on to the next chapter, McGuire leaves behind a legacy of excellence and leadership at Eastport South Manor that will not soon be forgotten.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
