The Nesaquake Middle School girls soccer team has been honored with the Smithtown Booster Club’s Fall Season Scholar Athlete Award, recognizing the team’s outstanding academic achievement and commitment both on and off the field. The team earned an impressive combined grade point average of 3.92, reflecting a season defined by hard work, discipline, and balance between athletics and academics.

The award was presented during a ceremony held last week, where Smithtown Booster Club President Dave Miller recognized the student-athletes for their dedication in the classroom. Each member of the team received commemorative T-shirts and certificates to celebrate the achievement and mark the occasion.

Nesaquake Middle School Principal Mr. McCabe praised the team for its perseverance and positive representation of the school community. “You get knocked down a lot in soccer, but what do you do? You get back up,” McCabe said. “Thank you for representing Nesaquake Middle School so well.” His remarks highlighted the resilience and character demonstrated by the players throughout the season.

The team’s success would not have been possible without the guidance and leadership of head coach Hess, who has played a key role in developing both the athletic skills and personal growth of these young student-athletes. Coach Hess emphasized the importance of teamwork, accountability, and time management, values that translated directly into academic success.

Balancing rigorous coursework with practices and games is no small task at the middle school level, making this honor particularly meaningful. The Scholar Athlete Award serves as a reminder that excellence in sports and academics can go hand in hand when students are supported by dedicated educators, coaches, and families.

The Nesaquake girls soccer team’s achievement stands as an example for their peers and underscores the school’s commitment to fostering well-rounded students. Their collective effort, determination, and focus have set a high standard and made the entire Nesaquake community proud.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
