The William Floyd High School girls’ varsity cross country team finished their regular season with a second-place overall result in Division I. Head coach John Ryan led the Colonials through a successful campaign, highlighted by strong performances at the Section XI Freshman/Sophomore Championship Meet.

At that meet, sophomores Anise Cobb, Serenity Wenger, and Esther Delille took the top three spots in their race, which resulted in a perfect team score and secured the Sophomore Team Championship for William Floyd. In the freshman division, eighth graders Coral Macchia and Grace Castantine from William Paca Middle School achieved season-best times and placed second and nineteenth respectively while competing at the varsity level.

Several athletes were recognized for individual achievements during the season. Senior Allana Morgan, junior Brianna Smith, sophomore Serenity Wenger, and eighth grader Coral Macchia received All-League honors. Additionally, Allana Morgan, Serenity Wenger, Anise Cobb, and Coral Macchia were named to the All-Division I team.

The Colonials will next compete at the Section XI State Qualifier on Thursday, November 6 at Sunken Meadow State Park.

"Best of luck to the girls as they prepare to compete at the State Qualifier!"

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
