Temperatures Are Rising, but Gas Prices Have Not

AAA reports that for Nassau-Suffolk the current average per gallon is $3.02 for regular gasoline that is down substantially from last year at this time when it was $3.67. The highest recorded regular unleaded gas prices for Nassau-Suffolk were in June of 2022 near the end of the pandemic when inflation was rising dramatically under Biden-Harris economic policies.

According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of gas is now $3.14, which down three cents from last week. Last year at this time, the price per gallon of gas was $3.62. The average price for New York State is $3.09/gallon.

Business Insider said, “Oil prices have crashed to 4-year lows. That means cheaper gas for Americans hitting the roads this summer. Oil prices dropped 2% on Monday to their lowest level since February 2021. The decline was sparked by OPEC's plans to increase oil supply by 411,000 barrels per day in June.

AAA said, “This means motorists could see even lower prices at the gas pumps this summer.”

If you are a driver of an electric vehicle and wonder what prices will look like to charge your car, the national and state averages for prices for electricity are holding steady. AAA says the national average per kilowatt-hour of electricity at public charging locations remains at $.34.

AAA has a Gas Cost Calculator at Gas Price Look Up where you can input your start and end location and make and model of your car to estimate the cost to travel by car on your family vacation. You can also put in your zip code or city and find out the average cost of a gallon of gas in your region. There is an EV Charging Prices tab that shows charging prices nationwide in case you are planning a long car trip with the family.
