Sachem Softball Sets Their Sights On State Title

The Sachem Softball Team Show Off Their Suffolk and Long Island Championship Trophies | @SachemSchools | X

Sachem East softball made history this week as they captured their first ever Long Island Championship. Sachem East defeated Oceanside in a big time pitchers dual 2-0 to secure the title.

Once again Sachem relied heavily on their superstar pitcher Olivia DeRose, and she did not disappoint. DeRose allowed just five hits to go along with her eight strikeouts in the shutout. DeRose has now pitched back to back to back shutouts en route to a Suffolk County championship and now the Long Island crown. She has not allowed a run in the past three games and her win total is at an outstanding 18 for the season. As a team Sachem has now played 31 playoff innings and they have allowed just a single run.

While DeRose certainly was center stage and the superstar, eighth-grader Madison Fisher became the hero for Sachem. Fisher cracked a two-strike, two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning to right field, breaking the game open and giving the Arrows the win.

Sachem will now play the winner of Lancaster/Fairport in the New York State Class AAA semifinal on Friday, June 7, at 1:30 p.m. at Martha Avenue. Sachem will be trying to create even more history by winning their first New York state softball title.
