All the fixings, including dessert—750 meals in all—were given out Saturday at the Suffolk Police Department’s 7th Precinct during an annual Thanksgiving event made possible by generous donations and dozens of volunteers chipping in.
The holiday effort grew from interactions with local families by Stacy Pollio, the department’s Community Unity and School Resource Officer. With help from Officer Frank Raspanti, a non-profit organization was formed, and this year, the third in a row, the response was more incredible than ever.
“It’s wonderful to see how dedicated these officers are to the community, and all the other staff members, volunteers, and donors who delivered in such a big way,” said William Doherty, the precinct commander.
The officers said they couldn’t have done it without generous donations from Stop and Shop of Rocky Point, Handy Pantry, Sign Design, McDonald’s and Daggett Management, Hummus Mediterranean Grill, Hope Church, SJ Home Design, Azure Realty, Prime Auto Collision, Pro-Fit of Deer Park, and East End Screen Printing.
“We especially thank the many volunteers who came out to help; 750 served is quite an achievement,” Pollio said.
