After more than a decade without a permanent beachfront facility, the new Suffolk County Cupsogue Beach Pavilion is officially open, marking a major milestone for one of the county’s most popular oceanfront destinations.
County Executive Ed Romaine announced the opening this week, calling the project a top priority for his administration.
“My administration made it a priority to restore this precious gem in our Suffolk County Parks system,” Romaine said. “Thanks to the dedication of our Suffolk County Parks Department and Suffolk County Public Works personnel, a beautiful new pavilion is open for our residents to enjoy.”
The new pavilion replaces the original structure that was destroyed by a fire in 2014. Since then, visitors have relied on temporary facilities while county officials worked toward a permanent replacement.
The new facility features a restaurant and bar operated by The Beach House, restrooms, changing rooms and an expansive deck offering sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and Moriches Bay.
“This new facility houses a vibrant and decadent restaurant and bar operated by The Beach House with delicious food to enjoy, restrooms and changing rooms, and a scenic deck area with sweeping views of the surrounding area,” Romaine said.
The project also drew praise from Suffolk AME, which recognized the county workers responsible for rebuilding the pavilion.
“Suffolk AME is proud to recognize and express our sincere gratitude to the hardworking members of our Department of Public Works and Parks Department who collaborated tirelessly to plan, rebuild, and improve the beloved Cupsogue Beach Pavilion,” the organization said in a statement.
The group noted that county employees spent years maintaining temporary facilities after the fire and credited Public Works and Parks workers with helping restore one of Suffolk County’s most treasured beachfront destinations.
