Bartlett Pond Park with its veteran monuments in Middle Island is a perfect setting to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in keeping our country free. A Memorial Day event there was made possible through the efforts of Gail Lynch Bailey, along with the Longwood Alliance, Middle Island Civic Association, Central Brookhaven Lions Club, Scout Troops 433 & 560, Brookhaven Town and Councilman Mike Loguercio, Frank Bailey, Tony & James Bocchimuzzo, Paul Infranco, Van Johnson, Marcel Rosenfeld, Dan Tomaszewski, Kevin Mann, Bugler Jerry Ewald, Jim Dowling, Tom Bove, Steve Pastena, Andy Suderov, the Middle Island, Coram, Gordon Heights, Yaphank and Ridge Fire Departments, U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club, Patriot Guard Riders NY, Reliable Garden & Fence, Longwood Central School District, Longwood High School Seal of Civic Readiness students and faculty adviser Jeanne Knudsen, and the Longwood Choralions and Director Brendan Sparks.

Hills East Wins First Ever State Championship

The Half Hollow Hills East girls flag football team has accomplished something no Suffolk County team had ever done before. This week, the Red Colts made Long Island history by becoming the first Suffolk County flag football team to capture a New York State championship. The historic achievement capped off a perfect season as Hills East defeated Shaker High School 26-12 in the state title game.
