Former New York Knicks legend Patrick Ewing is headed back to familiar territory.

Fresh off celebrating the Knicks' long-awaited NBA championship, Ewing has agreed to join Brian Keefe's coaching staff as an assistant coach with the Washington Wizards, returning to the city where he first became one of college basketball's biggest stars.

After serving as a Knicks ambassador since 2024, Ewing will once again patrol the sidelines, bringing decades of basketball knowledge and leadership to a young Wizards team looking to continue its climb in the Eastern Conference.

Before becoming one of the greatest players in Knicks history, Ewing made his name at Georgetown University, where he led the Hoyas to a national championship and three Final Four appearances during a legendary collegiate career in the 1980s. He later returned to his alma mater as head coach, guiding the program from 2017 through 2023 while leading the Hoyas to an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Ewing is no stranger to the NBA coaching ranks. He brings 15 years of experience as an NBA assistant, beginning with the Wizards during the 2002-03 season. He later served on the coaching staffs in Houston and Orlando before becoming associate head coach under Steve Clifford in Charlotte.

Clifford, a longtime NBA head coach with more than 800 games of coaching experience, will also join the Wizards organization as a coaching advisor after previously serving in similar roles with Phoenix and Brooklyn.

The Wizards appear to be building toward a promising future after making several key roster additions and committing to a young core expected to compete in the Eastern Conference for years to come. Ewing's experience as both a Hall of Fame player and veteran coach should provide valuable leadership as the franchise continues its development.

For Ewing, the move represents another exciting chapter in a remarkable basketball journey—one that brings him back to the city where his legacy first began while offering another opportunity to shape the next generation of NBA talent.
