From the World Cup to Suffolk

Jeremy Sarmiento | Suffolk County Police Department

As soccer continues to capture the attention of fans around the world, young athletes in Suffolk County recently enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to train with an international star.

Last week, boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 18 took part in a special soccer clinic featuring Ecuadorian National Team player and 2022 FIFA World Cup participant Jeremy Sarmiento. The event gave aspiring players the rare chance to learn firsthand from one of the sport's top professionals while developing their own skills on the field.

Throughout the clinic, participants worked on fundamentals, sharpened their techniques and gained valuable insight into the dedication, discipline and hard work required to compete at the highest levels of the game. For many of the young athletes, it was an unforgettable experience that brought their World Cup dreams a little closer to reality.

The event also served as an opportunity to strengthen community connections while inspiring the next generation of soccer players throughout Suffolk County. Sarmiento took time to interact with participants, encouraging them to continue working hard and pursuing their goals both on and off the field.

The Suffolk County Police Department expressed its appreciation to everyone who helped make the day a success, offering a special thank you to the Hispanic Cultural Affairs Alliance for organizing the event in partnership with the Village of Patchogue.

The department also thanked Sarmiento for sharing his time and experience with the young athletes, as well as the Suffolk County police officers who attended and helped ensure the event ran smoothly.

By the end of the day, the smiles on the faces of the participants said it all. The clinic provided much more than soccer instruction—it created lasting memories and inspired local children to dream big while showing them what is possible through hard work, determination and a love for the game.
