The William Floyd School District has long been known for its strong sense of community, and that spirit was on full display this season as one student group stepped up to help another prepare for a memorable year.
Before the start of the Unified Basketball and Unified Cheer seasons, members of the Unified Cheer team received a special treat thanks to students in William Floyd's Career and Technical Education (CTE) Cosmetology program.
The junior cosmetology students welcomed the cheerleaders into their salon, where they offered a variety of hairstyle options to help them look and feel their best for the upcoming season. More than just a salon appointment, the visit became an opportunity for students from different programs to connect and learn from one another.
Throughout the appointments, the cosmetology students and cheerleaders shared stories about their experiences in school, discussing everything from cheering on the sidelines to pursuing careers in cosmetology. The conversations created new friendships while highlighting the inclusive and supportive environment that makes William Floyd such a special place.
After completing each hairstyle, the cosmetology students added William Floyd's signature green and white bows, putting the finishing touches on the cheerleaders' new looks as they prepared to begin their season.
The experience proved to be a win-win for everyone involved. The cosmetology students gained valuable hands-on training by working with real clients in a professional setting, while the Unified Cheer team enjoyed a confidence boost and a memorable experience before taking the court.
The collaboration showcased the importance of teamwork, kindness and school pride beyond the classroom and athletic fields. By working together, students from two different programs demonstrated what it truly means to be part of the William Floyd family.
