The Suffolk County Water Authority has completed a major water main replacement project on Cabot Road in West Babylon, upgrading aging infrastructure and improving reliability for customers throughout the area.

The project replaced approximately 2,400 feet of aging iron water main with new ductile iron pipe, part of the authority’s broader effort to modernize infrastructure and strengthen water service across Suffolk County.

According to the authority, the previous main had experienced numerous breaks over the years, creating maintenance challenges and prompting officials to prioritize an upgrade before additional failures occurred.

SCWA Chief Executive Officer Jeff Szabo recently toured the completed project site with Suffolk County Legislator Jason Richberg, reviewing the improvements and discussing benefits for residents, businesses and the surrounding community.

“Replacing aging infrastructure before it becomes a larger problem is one of the most important investments we can make for our customers,” Szabo said. “This project on Cabot Road will help reduce the likelihood of future water main breaks and ensure a more reliable water supply for the West Babylon community.”

Richberg said the project represents a proactive investment in infrastructure that residents and businesses depend on daily and praised the authority’s commitment to maintaining dependable service and high-quality drinking water for local customers.

The new ductile iron main is expected to provide greater durability and longevity than the older cast iron infrastructure, helping reduce disruptions and support long-term system performance.
