Colonial Youth and Family Services will celebrate more than five decades of service to local families when it hosts its 47th Annual Golf Outing on June 29 at Swan Lake Golf Club in Manorville.
The organization’s largest annual fundraiser will honor Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services Commissioner Rudy Sunderman and longtime Mastic Beach Fire Commissioner Bill Biondi, two men organizers describe as tireless advocates for the community and longtime supporters of Colonial Youth.
“This is our key fundraising event,” said Fred Towle, chairman of the golf committee. “It’s an all-hands-on-deck event where the staff, volunteers and board work together. All of the funding raised from the golf outing goes directly toward programming, particularly our summer camp.”
Towle said the agency selected Sunderman and Biondi because of their decades of dedication to local residents.
“Rudy and Bill are two outstanding community volunteer leaders,” Towle said. “They don’t know the word ‘no.’ They’ve supported Colonial Youth, our programs and our families for decades. They’re always the first to lend a hand with anything we do, whether it’s the food drive, toy drive or helping families in need.”
Sunderman, a lifelong Mastic resident and William Floyd graduate, serves as Suffolk’s Commissioner of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services. His service includes leadership roles with the Mastic Fire Department, Mastic Volunteer Ambulance, Suffolk County Fire Academy, and as a former Suffolk County legislator.
Biondi has devoted more than 50 years to the Mastic Beach Fire Department, serving as chief, commissioner and chairman of the board. A U.S. Army veteran, he also served as one of the first elected village officials in Mastic Beach and later as mayor.
Colonial Youth, which employs 55 people and serves hundreds of families annually, provides preschool, childcare, after-school programs, summer camp and family support services throughout the Tri-Hamlet area.
Towle, who has supported the organization for nearly four decades, said the event is already drawing strong support with more than 100 golfers registered and approximately 180 people expected at the evening cocktail party and dinner.
The outing begins at 11 a.m. with registration and lunch, followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The day concludes with cocktails, dinner, raffles and auctions. Organizers are still seeking sponsors, journal ads and additional community support.
