A Long Island man is facing a slew of felony charges after allegedly opening fire during a heated late-night dispute that left two people wounded in Mastic Beach, police said.

Matthew McCue, 37, of Mastic Beach, was arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that sent a man and woman to the hospital with gunshot injuries, according to Suffolk County Police.

The violence erupted outside a home on Woodside Road, where a group of people had gathered and an argument suddenly boiled over, investigators said.

Authorities allege McCue pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds at two people involved in the confrontation before fleeing the scene.

The victims, a 25-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, were struck during the gunfire and rushed to the emergency room. Both suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

Detectives launched an investigation and later identified McCue as the suspected shooter.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment.

The arrest brought relief to neighbors shaken by the burst of violence in the normally quiet residential community.

Police have not disclosed what sparked the dispute or whether the victims and suspect knew each other.

McCue, who lives on the same street where the shooting unfolded, was scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.

McCue is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
