A Westhampton man was arrested after menacing someone with what appeared to be a small hatchet in Speonk, Southampton Town police said.
Officers responded to a report of a man chasing someone with a knife near the intersection of Montauk Highway and North Phillips Avenue.
Upon investigation, police identified the suspect as Elias Tintichitay, 37, and determined he had menaced a person known to him with what appeared to be a small hatchet.
Tintichitay was taken into custody without incident and no one was injured, police said. He was charged with one count of second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor, and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
During the investigation, police also determined that Tintichitay was wanted in connection with a prior incident against the same person at the same location on Saturday, May 30.
He faces an identical set of charges, second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, for that earlier incident as well.
Tintichitay was released on appearance tickets for both incidents and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date, police said.
