The William Floyd School District is proving this spring that excellence in athletics extends far beyond one team or one sport. Across the board, Colonials athletes are turning in dominant performances, earning playoff berths, breaking records and building momentum heading into postseason competition.

Four varsity teams — flag football, baseball, boys’ lacrosse and girls’ lacrosse — have all secured spots in the Section XI playoffs, while both the boys’ and girls’ track and field teams wrapped up outstanding 5-1 seasons in League I competition.

Leading the charge is the varsity flag football team, which finished 9-3 and earned its second consecutive playoff appearance. Suffolk County Defensive Player of the Year Vinte’ya Rountree has starred on both sides of the ball, while eighth-grade quarterback Isabella Quinones threw for more than 1,600 yards and 26 touchdowns in an impressive debut season. The Colonials enter the playoffs on an eight-game winning streak.

Baseball secured a third straight playoff berth after a 12-8 season powered by players like Jacob Cooke, Kiernyn Mehmel and freshman standout Evan Hoyle. Both lacrosse programs also continued their success. The boys’ team reached the playoffs for the second year in a row behind leading scorer Marc Pluchino, while the girls’ squad earned its sixth consecutive postseason berth after an 11-5 campaign led by Emma DiMaio.

“Throughout the season, this team has consistently demonstrated determination, grit, perseverance and an outstanding work ethic,” girls’ lacrosse coach Nicole Alesi said.

Track and field has been equally dominant, with standout performances from Allana Morgan, Jazz Paul, Holden Lentini and Zavier Jenkins highlighting a strong championship season.

From the turf to the track, William Floyd athletics continues to set the standard in Suffolk County.
