The third Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame library exhibit has officially opened, continuing a growing tradition of celebrating local athletic history throughout the community.
This marks the Hall of Fame’s 11th exhibit overall and its latest installation is now on display at the Bayport-Blue Point Library on the South Shore. The new exhibit brings together stories, memorabilia, and tributes to some of Suffolk County’s most accomplished athletes and contributors to sports.
To commemorate the opening, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last week. Hall of Fame representatives shared remarks about the importance of community, connection, and preserving local sports history. The event also welcomed families of several inductees, adding a personal and meaningful touch to the celebration.
Among those who spoke was Dr. Donatelli, a Bayport-Blue Point resident, who reflected on his career and experiences in sports. His remarks highlighted the lasting impact athletics can have, both on individuals and the broader community.
The exhibit itself will not remain static. Organizers noted that it will rotate locations and seasonal displays within the library, offering visitors a fresh experience throughout the year. The Bayport-Blue Point Library, a converted convent, provides a unique and historic setting that enhances the storytelling behind the exhibit.
In a statement, the Hall of Fame expressed appreciation to Jamie LaBelle for helping organize the exhibit, adding, “Much more to come.”
With its blend of history, community pride, and local storytelling, the exhibit offers residents a chance to connect with Suffolk County’s rich sports legacy—right in their own neighborhood.
