Port Jefferson has a new record holder, and the achievement keeps getting better each time she steps into the circle.
At last week’s Steeplefest meet, Port Jefferson standout Mehana Levy broke the school’s outdoor track and field shot put record with a tremendous throw of 33 feet, 11.25 inches. The mark adds another chapter to what has already been a memorable season for the talented athlete.
Levy has represented Port Jefferson at the state level in the shot put earlier this year, showcasing her skill against some of the top competitors in New York. Her latest performance proves she continues to rise to the occasion whenever the spotlight is on.
Remarkably, this was not the first time Levy has rewritten the record book. She has continued to top her own marks throughout the season, showing steady improvement and determination each time she competes.
Back in February, Levy broke a school record that had stood for 25 years when she launched a throw of 33 feet, 8 inches at the Zeitler Coaches’ Classic. That effort was already considered a milestone moment for the program, but she has since raised the bar even higher.
For student-athletes, records are often the result of countless hours of practice, discipline, and perseverance. Levy’s success is a reflection of the hard work she has put in both on and off the field, and it has brought excitement to the Port Jefferson track and field community.
The school’s social media pages celebrated the accomplishment with pride, posting, “What an outstanding achievement and a moment to be proud of. Way to go, Mehana!”
With the postseason approaching and momentum on her side, Levy appears poised for even more success ahead. Each meet has become another opportunity to see how far she can throw and how much more history she can make.
For Port Jefferson, it has been a season to remember, and Mehana Levy’s record-breaking performances are leading the way.
