A familiar name to Long Island baseball fans is back making noise at the highest level, as former Ward Melville Patriots standout Anthony Kay earned his first Major League win in nearly four years this past week.

Pitching for the Chicago White Sox, Kay delivered a strong performance in a 2-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night. The left-hander allowed just three hits over 5 2/3 innings, keeping Royals hitters off balance throughout the outing.

It marked Kay’s first Major League win since July 2021, making the moment even more meaningful after spending the past two seasons pitching overseas in Japan. His return to the big leagues has been steady, and this outing showcased the poise and command that made him a standout earlier in his career.

Kay threw 100 pitches in the game, including 63 strikes, and generated 13 swings and misses. While he did hit two batters, neither came back to hurt him, as he worked out of trouble and kept the scoreboard clean.

The performance also represented a milestone within his 2026 campaign, as it was the first time this season he pitched into the sixth inning. Through his first three appearances, Kay has posted an impressive 2.45 ERA and 1.16 WHIP, along with 11 strikeouts over 14.2 innings.

For local fans who followed his rise from Ward Melville to professional baseball, Kay’s success is another reminder of the talent that continues to come out of Long Island.

As he continues to settle back into a Major League role, Kay appears poised to build on this momentum and reestablish himself as a reliable arm at the highest level.
