Floyd Walks it Off

It was a game full of momentum swings, big hits and late-inning drama, and in the end, the William Floyd Colonials came away with a thrilling 9-8 walk-off victory over Patchogue-Medford Raiders this week.

Playing at home, William Floyd, led by head coach Keith Kobasiuk, found itself in an early 4-1 hole. But the Colonials wasted little time responding, erupting in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at four and completely shift the momentum.

From there, Floyd took control. The Colonials held Patchogue-Medford scoreless for three straight innings, while the offense continued to produce. A go-ahead rally in the third inning gave Floyd its first lead of the game, and three more runs in the fifth stretched the advantage to 8-4.

Just when it seemed the Colonials had the game in hand, the Raiders battled back. Patchogue-Medford erased the deficit with a four-run sixth inning to even the score at 8-8, setting up a dramatic finish.

In the bottom of the seventh, Floyd loaded the bases and put the pressure back on. That’s when Aidan Dobrie delivered, battling through a tough at-bat before lining a walk-off single to seal the win and send the home crowd into celebration.

Kiernyn Mehmel played a major role in the victory, pitching 5.1 strong innings while also contributing three hits and two RBIs at the plate. Dobrie finished with three hits of his own, while Andrew Marino added two RBIs. Additional contributions came from Gabriel Beta, Spencer Link and Evan Pacella, each driving in a run.

With the win, the Colonials improved to 4-1 on the young season and will look to carry that momentum into the remainder of their series against Patchogue-Medford.
