Members of the Bay Shore Boys and Girls Varsity Track and Field Teams were recently recognized with postseason honors, capping off an impressive winter season filled with standout performances.
Leading the way were Limel Small, Zareb Gonzalez and Maggie McCormick, each of whom made a significant impact both locally and on the national stage.
Small recently competed in the triple jump at the Nike High School Indoor National Championships, continuing to build on a strong season. He recorded a personal-best jump of 44 feet, 4.5 inches this winter, hitting the state qualifying standard and earning a spot at the NYSPHSAA Championships.
Gonzalez also turned in a standout performance, qualifying for the state championships after clearing 6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump. He went on to place third at the Section XI State Qualifier, solidifying his place among the top competitors in the region.
Meanwhile, McCormick continued her remarkable season with strong finishes at the New Balance High School Indoor Championships. She placed fourth in the two-mile run and sixth in the one-mile, earning All-American honors. McCormick also captured a state championship in the 1,500-meter run, adding another highlight to her already decorated career.
Together, the trio’s accomplishments reflect the depth of talent within the Bay Shore program. From personal bests to state titles and national recognition, the athletes have set a high standard for success.
As the spring season approaches, Bay Shore’s track and field teams look poised to build on this momentum. With experienced leaders and proven performers returning, the future remains bright for the Marauders on the track and in the field.
