The Mount Sinai boys basketball team has done it again.
The Mustangs captured the Suffolk County championship for the second consecutive year after defeating King’s Park 62-30 in a dominant performance. The top-seeded Mustangs finished their county playoff run in impressive fashion, improving their overall record to 21-2 on the season.
Mount Sinai wasted little time taking control of the game. The Mustangs came out energized and focused, jumping on King’s Park early and building a 14-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. Their strong defense and efficient offense continued into the second quarter as they extended their advantage and went into halftime with a commanding 28-10 lead.
The Mustangs maintained that momentum in the second half, continuing to apply pressure on both ends of the court. Mount Sinai won every quarter of the game and steadily pulled away to secure the decisive victory and another county title.
All-around star Brian Vales led the way with an outstanding performance. Vales finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds and three steals, setting the tone for the Mustangs on both offense and defense.
Andrew McNeely played a pivotal role in the offense as well, recording 14 points and eight assists while helping orchestrate the team’s ball movement throughout the game. Dante Gervino also made a strong contribution, scoring 12 points while adding four rebounds.
Hunter Seale filled the stat sheet with nine points, two rebounds and four assists, while Ethan Arita chipped in three points and grabbed six important rebounds.
Collin Bruder, Alex Campanelli and PJ Sheiffele each added two points to round out the scoring for the Mustangs.
