A Holtsville man has been arrested after police say he robbed a woman at knifepoint inside a building on College Road in Selden, according to Suffolk County police.
Police said Mitchell Taylor, 32, entered the building at 533 College Road armed with a knife and approached a 29-year-old woman at about 8:40 p.m. Investigators said Taylor demanded the woman’s wallet and jacket while threatening her with the knife.
The victim complied with the demand and Taylor fled the building with the stolen items, police said. The woman was not injured during the encounter.
After an investigation, Sixth Squad detectives identified Taylor as the suspect in the robbery. Detectives located him early Wednesday morning at his home on Long Island Avenue in Holtsville.
He was arrested at approximately 1:05 a.m., authorities said.
Taylor was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony under New York law. Police said the investigation was conducted by detectives assigned to the department’s Sixth Squad.
Taylor is being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct pending arraignment. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
Authorities did not release additional details about the circumstances leading up to the robbery or whether the suspect and victim knew each other. Police also did not say whether the knife used in the robbery was recovered.
The incident occurred inside a building on College Road, a busy corridor near several businesses and residential complexes in Selden.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Suffolk County Police.
Residents in the area reported seeing police activity late Tuesday and early Wednesday as detectives worked to identify and locate the suspect. Authorities said the arrest followed investigative work by Sixth Squad detectives assigned to the case.
