Section XI Top New York State

Wrestling Mats NYS | Section XI - Suffolk County Athletics | X

When the dust settled at the New York State Division I Wrestling Championships, Section XI stood alone at the top, proving once again that Suffolk County wrestling remains among the elite in New York State. Powered by a dominant showing across multiple weight classes, Section XI captured the team title at the championships held at the MVP Arena.

Section XI finished the tournament with 248.5 team points, narrowly edging out the Catholic High School Athletic Association, which placed second with 240.5 points. The tight margin underscored just how competitive the event was, but consistent performances throughout the brackets allowed Section XI to separate itself when it mattered most.

The final team standings reflected a clear divide at the top. Section XI led the field, followed by CHSAA in second. Section VIII placed third with 191.5 points, while Section I finished close behind with 190.5. Rounding out the top half were Section IX (180.5), Section V (166.5), and Section III (159.5). The remaining sections included Section II (116.5), Section IV (46), PSAL (39), and Section VI (38).

Section XI’s championship performance was fueled by depth, balance, and experience. Wrestlers from Suffolk County advanced deep into their respective brackets, collected key placement points, and delivered clutch victories that consistently added to the team total. Rather than relying on a single standout, Section XI benefited from contributions throughout the lineup, showcasing the strength of its programs.

The title further reinforces Suffolk County’s reputation as a wrestling powerhouse. Year after year, Section XI schools produce state qualifiers, finalists, and champions, and this latest result reflects the system-wide commitment to excellence within the section. From early-round dominance to podium finishes, Section XI controlled the pace of the tournament and earned its place atop the standings.

With another state championship secured, Section XI continues to set the standard for wrestling in New York, demonstrating that its programs are built not just to compete, but to win on the sport’s biggest stage.
