Former New York Yankee Mark Teixeira has hit a virtual home run once again, this time off the field. Teixeira, affectionately known as “Tex” during his playing days, won his Republican primary this week, securing 61 percent of the vote to succeed GOP Representative Chip Roy in southwest Texas.
Teixeira received a significant boost ahead of the primary when Donald Trump publicly endorsed him in the race for the open House seat in Texas’ 21st Congressional District. Trump took to Truth Social to praise the former first baseman, writing, “I know Mark well, and he is a TOTAL WINNER, on and off the field! An MLB All-Star, Mark’s career was ‘loaded up’ with accolades and wins, including five Gold Gloves, three Silver Sluggers, and a World Series Championship.”
The former president went on to commend Teixeira’s family and highlighted several policy positions he said aligned with the current Republican platform. Trump concluded his post by offering his “Complete and Total Endorsement” and expressing confidence that Teixeira would serve the district effectively.
Following the primary victory, Teixeira shared his gratitude on social media. “This is a huge victory, and I’m truly honored to have such strong support from the people of TX-21,” Teixeira wrote on X. “Thank you!”
Teixeira, who enjoyed a standout Major League Baseball career with teams including the New York Yankees, has transitioned from sports to public service with a message centered on leadership, discipline, and teamwork. His decisive primary win signals strong momentum heading into the general election.
Beyond the political implications, Teixeira’s victory also adds an interesting wrinkle on Capitol Hill. With his athletic background, the Republican Congressional Baseball Team appears poised to gain a powerful new addition, proving once again that Teixeira knows how to win—no matter the arena.
