Nearly 40 students and family members took part in a STEAM Team event at Rocky Point Middle School last Wednesday. The school library was set up with five hands-on challenges aimed at engaging participants in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Teams rotated through each station, spending 15 minutes on activities that promoted teamwork and critical thinking.

The challenges included building a straw cantilever to support a marble, constructing a Lego gondola for a zipline, creating a domino run that lasted exactly ten seconds, programming a Cubelets robot to cross a table without falling off, and estimating the number of marbles needed to fill a large tub.

After all teams completed the stations and scores were tallied, Team No. 1 was announced as the winner. The team consisted of Kristopher Citarella, Samuel Correa-Arias, Emmett Monahan, and Caleb Parisi.

Organizers said the event encouraged creativity while helping students develop problem-solving and collaboration skills. Family involvement was also highlighted as an important aspect of the hands-on learning experience.
