Seawolves Lax Debut at #16

SB Lax team | Stony Brook Athletics

The Stony Brook women’s lacrosse program earned its first national ranking of the year, checking in at No. 16 in the USA Lacrosse Division I Women’s Preseason Top 20, as released by USA Lacrosse Magazine. The ranking reflects the program’s continued rise and sustained success on the national stage.

The Seawolves concluded the 2025 season ranked No. 16 in USA Lacrosse Magazine’s final poll after posting a 16-5 overall record. Stony Brook made its 12th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship and continued to establish itself as one of the premier programs outside the traditional power conferences. The Seawolves captured their third straight CAA Championship with a victory over Drexel and advanced to the NCAA Second Round after defeating No. 17 Loyola Maryland. Their postseason run came to an end against eventual finalist No. 2 Boston College.

Stony Brook turned heads throughout the 2025 campaign by earning wins over three nationally ranked opponents, including Denver (No. 24), Drexel (No. 21), and Loyola Maryland (No. 17). Those victories helped solidify the Seawolves’ reputation as a dangerous matchup for any opponent.

The 2026 schedule presents another major challenge, as Stony Brook will face six teams that are either ranked or receiving votes in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Top 20. Those opponents include Northwestern (No. 2), Princeton (No. 6), Johns Hopkins (No. 12), along with Denver, Drexel, and UAlbany, all of whom are receiving votes.

Stony Brook opens the 2026 campaign at home against UAlbany on February 15. In total, the Seawolves will play nine home games at LaValle Stadium, giving fans plenty of opportunities to watch one of the nation’s top programs compete as it looks to build on last season’s success and make another deep postseason run.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
