Sachem East Wins Wrestling Tournament

The Sachem East Varsity Boys Wrestling Team delivered an outstanding performance this weekend, capturing first place at the Lou Giani Huntington Wrestling Tournament. Leading the team was Joe Schroff, who claimed first place at 170 pounds, along with Sean Restrepo, who secured first at 101 pounds. Their dominant efforts set the tone for a strong showing across the lineup.

Several wrestlers earned impressive second-place finishes, including 215-pound competitor Ashton Mendiola, 160-pound wrestler Austin Brendl, heavyweight contender Gavin Burns at 285 pounds, Logan Graf at 108, and Luke Lischulz at 145. Each demonstrated grit and discipline throughout their respective brackets.

The team’s depth was also on full display. Christian Quarltere, Dylan Devine, and Sergio Flores-Aponte all battled their way to third-place finishes, adding crucial points to Sachem East’s overall tournament victory. Additional contributions came from Isaac Alves, Matt Amoroso, Ryan Pickersgill, and Mathew Perkins, whose efforts helped round out a complete and well-balanced team performance.

Following the tournament, the Sachem Schools social media team praised the wrestlers for their exceptional effort, saying, “An incredible showing all around — and a huge shoutout to our nine individual champions who led the way!” Their message highlighted the program’s pride in both the athletes’ accomplishments and the strong competitive spirit displayed throughout the event.

This tournament victory reflects the dedication, preparation, and teamwork that define the Sachem East wrestling program. From seasoned upperclassmen to emerging underclassmen, the roster showcased its talent and determination on one of the region’s respected stages.
