Spallina is the Cover Girl

Alexa Spallina | Inside Lacrosse

Alexa Spallina is the new cover girl of Inside Lacrosse, gracing the front of the magazine as one of the nation’s most exciting rising stars. The Mount Sinai standout was officially named the No. 1 incoming freshman in the country this week by Inside Lacrosse, a recognition that further solidifies her status as one of the most decorated recruits to ever emerge from Long Island. Her remarkable blend of athleticism, skill, and lacrosse IQ has made her a household name in the sport long before her first college game.

During her high school career, Spallina was a three-time All-American, earning widespread praise for her dominant play and leadership on the field. She has long been considered one of the best players to come out of Suffolk County, a region known for producing elite lacrosse talent. Coaches and analysts repeatedly pointed to her work ethic, scoring ability, and competitiveness as qualities that set her apart and projected her to succeed at the highest level.

Lacrosse excellence runs in the family. Joey Spallina, Alexa’s older brother, is now a senior at Syracuse and was the top recruit in the class of 2022. He has already made a major impact at the collegiate level, and the Spallina name has become synonymous with lacrosse greatness. Their father, Joe Spallina, is the head coach of the Stony Brook University women’s lacrosse program, where he has built a nationally respected powerhouse. Growing up immersed in the sport, Alexa developed both the passion and the foundation necessary to thrive.

Her highly anticipated freshman season at Clemson begins on February 6, when the Tigers face Vanderbilt. With national expectations already surrounding her, Spallina is ready to begin her college career and prove once again why she is considered the best incoming player in the country.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
