Brookhaven officials oversee demolition of vacant house in Mount Sinai

Daniel J. Panico Supervisor | Town of Brookhaven

Supervisor Dan Panico and Councilwoman Jane Bonner were present at 1 Sunken Valley Road in Mount Sinai as the Town of Brookhaven oversaw the demolition of a vacant property on August 19. The house, which had been empty for several years, had become a safety concern for neighbors.

The demolition was conducted by the Department of Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management, working with the Department of Law and Department of Public Safety. This action is part of an ongoing initiative by the Town to remove unsafe structures and address quality-of-life issues in local neighborhoods.

The removal was performed under Chapter 73 of the Town Code, which allows for a quicker process to eliminate dangerous buildings from residential areas.

“For far too long, this property stood as a blight in the neighborhood,” said Councilwoman Bonner. “Its demolition is a positive step forward for Mount Sinai, and I thank our Town departments for their work to restore safety and peace of mind for local residents.”
