Councilwoman Jane Bonner was formally honored as Grand Marshal of the 74th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade during the Friends of St. Patrick Dinner Dance in Mount Sinai.
The celebration, held Feb. 21 at the Moose Lodge on Crystal Brook Hollow Road, marked a highlight of the parade season and brought together local elected officials, community leaders and residents in anticipation of the annual tradition. During the event, Bonner was presented with her official Grand Marshal sash, along with a proclamation and certificate of congratulations recognizing her selection to lead this year’s parade.
The 74th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is scheduled for Sunday, March 15, and remains one of the community’s most cherished traditions, drawing families, friends and local organizations together in celebration of Irish heritage and civic pride.
“I am deeply honored to serve as Grand Marshal for this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade,” Bonner said. “The Friends of St. Patrick do an incredible job preserving and celebrating this important tradition. It was a wonderful evening, and I am grateful to be part of such a meaningful event.”
The dinner dance also spotlighted student achievement, recognizing Justine Lang, a senior at Rocky Point High School, as the winner of the Friends of St. Patrick essay contest and recipient of a $1,000 scholarship. Lang was honored for her outstanding submission and academic accomplishments and received a proclamation and certificate of congratulations.
Among those attending the event were Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio, County Executive Ed Romaine, Supervisor Dan Panico, Receiver of Taxes Louis Marcoccia and Congressman Nick LaLota.
Organizers said the annual dinner dance celebrates the leaders, students and volunteers who help sustain the spirit and success of the St. Patrick’s Day festivities each year.
