Seniors Haylie Abrams and Patrick Shea have received nominations from their school for the 23rd annual Dellecave Awards.

While Abrams will head off to the University of Colorado and it's the University of Michigan for Shea, they each had one more honor before walking out the doors and graduating.

This prestigious award honors the top Suffolk County male and female graduating seniors who excel in athletics, academics and community service. The awards are named for Butch Dellecave, who served as an educator for three decades in the Connetquot School District, was a sports official in Suffolk County for nearly 20 years and founded the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in 1990.

Abrams is a dual sport star who was a midfielder as well as picked up the award for SWR Most Improved Athlete. She is also a standout in field hockey as well as a Dellecave requirement of being an exceptional student. This past year she also was a standout on the basketball team.

Shea also plays multiple sports at an elite level. He competes for both the soccer and cross-country teams and is the captain for a team that won the county championship in its division last year.

As with all Dellecave winners he is also a standout student, and reports say he got over a 1500 on his SATs.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
