Students in two programs at William Floyd High School recently participated in a presentation on Suffolk County Accessible Transportation (SCAT). Led by teachers Carmella Currao and Kerry Skadl, the session aimed to educate students on the benefits of SCAT in finding and maintaining employment.
SCAT is a transportation service offered by Suffolk County Transit. It caters to individuals who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act and are unable to use regular bus routes. The service is accessible and offers both curb-to-curb and "Origin to Destination" travel options.
During the presentation, students learned about SCAT's role in creating job opportunities by providing reliable transportation. They also boarded a SCAT bus for a practical understanding of its features and learned the application process for the service.
The event highlighted the significance of dependable transportation in achieving job readiness. Mrs. Currao stated, “The knowledge gained from this experience will undoubtedly help students feel more prepared for when they join the workforce!”
