Five of Cornacchiulo’s pieces were recognized in the regional round of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, with two advancing to the national level for adjudication.
In addition, she received Best in Show at the Suffolk County Art Leaders Association’s High School All County and Scholarship Show, further distinguishing her as one of the region’s top young artists.
“I am very excited about it,” Cornacchiulo said of her recent success.Cornacchiulo, who has been passionate about art since kindergarten, submitted a portfolio and five distinctly different works to the Scholastic competition, each earning recognition. Her jewelry piece, “Shield Away From Those Around You,” a creatively crafted set of press-on nails, received a Gold Key award and will move on to nationals.
Also advancing is “Parallel Play,” a painting depicting her father and his favorite cat, which she originally created as a Father’s Day gift.
Her drawings “To Be Human” and “Glowing Gloss” were awarded Silver Keys, while her fashion design piece, “The Skin: The First Line,” earned an honorable mention.
Cornacchiulo said she was especially proud of the fashion piece, as it marked her first experience sewing with leather.“Glowing Gloss,” a still-life featuring glass bottles illuminated by light, also captured Best in Show honors at the SCALA competition.
This fall, Cornacchiulo plans to study psychology in college while continuing to pursue her passion for art. A dedicated student-athlete, she competes on the varsity golf team and previously played varsity tennis.
She is also a former chamber choir member and an active participant in multiple honor societies, serving as treasurer of the National Honor Society.
