As more and more attention has been thrust upon the William Floyd Girls’ Track Team, so has the caution within the William Floyd School District.
After the initial reports from the South Shore Press that a biological male was competing on the Girls Varsity Track Team, the school's track meet Tuesday had a completely different look to the event.
As visitors pulled into the William Floyd School area they were met with a heavy police presence. The school even moved the most recent meet from the normal school track to the elementary school next door.
A concerned parent told the South Shore Press that "in four years we have never run on this track." The parent agreed to speak to the South Shore Press only on the condition that we do not publish their name.
After walking past a parked Suffolk County Police car and onto the new field the security presence was evident. There were no less than a dozen security and school staff on hand and parents said, "they have never seen anything like this before." Another parent, who asked to remain anonymous for security concerns of her own, stated that "This is a circus. I just can't wait for this season to be over; it's become a nightmare."
With the anticipation growing to witness a biological boy competing on the girls’ team, the runner in question did not take the track and did not compete. In fact, the biological boy who identifies socially as a girl was not on the field. Spectators said this is now his second missed meet. The first was because of missing practices.
According to William Floyd parents, the biological boy who identifies socially as a girl ran for the middle school last season on the girls’ team, but track records were not kept. The South Shore Press is not publishing the name of the boy who is a sprinter who runs the 100, 200 and 400 meters on the Varsity Girls’ Track Team.
Due to heightened security and a heavy police presence, the Middle Country track team was brought in a back entrance as their bus was directed behind the elementary school. Due to the new venue at Woodhull Elementary School, and because there are no bathrooms or locker rooms at the track they used, girls were changing near the port-a-potties behind the bleachers.
The group “Moms for Liberty, Suffolk NY” is planning to protest a Board of Education Executive Session that is scheduled at the William Floyd School District on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025. While the meeting itself is closed to the public, parents and the Mom's for Liberty group shared flyers on social media, promoting the protest, which is scheduled to begin at 4:45 PM on Wednesday at the BOE meeting at 240 Mastic Beach Road, Mastic Beach.
The next scheduled William Floyd High School Girls’ Track meet is on the road at Patchogue-Medford, on Monday, April 7th, 2025, and is slated to start at 4:00 PM.
