The Center Moriches Varsity Baseball Team is once again sitting atop Suffolk County Class B baseball after capturing its first county championship since 2022.
The Red Devils entered the postseason as the top-ranked team in Class B and lived up to those expectations by defeating second-seeded Babylon Varsity Baseball Team in the Suffolk County Class B Championship Series. Center Moriches secured the title with a 3-1 victory in Game 2 after opening the series with a dominant 5-0 win the day before.
As they have throughout much of the season, the Red Devils relied on outstanding pitching and timely hitting to get the job done. Pitcher Alex Foster delivered another strong performance on the mound, earning the victory by allowing just two hits over five innings while striking out six batters. His effort helped keep Babylon’s offense in check and gave Center Moriches control of the championship-clinching game.
The offense provided all the support Foster would need, highlighted by a towering home run to right field from Jack Cressy. The big hit energized the Red Devils and helped pave the way to another county title for the program.
The championship is a fitting reward for a team that has been one of Suffolk County’s best all season long. Center Moriches has consistently combined strong pitching, solid defense, and clutch hitting to establish itself as a force in Class B baseball.
With the victory, the Red Devils improved their record to an impressive 19-3 on the season and now turn their attention to an even bigger challenge. Center Moriches advances to the Long Island Championship, where it will face the winner of Nassau County’s Class B title game.
The opportunity to compete for a Long Island championship is the next step in what has already been a memorable season. With momentum on their side and confidence built from a county title run, the Red Devils will look to continue their winning ways and add another championship trophy to an already remarkable year.
