After a shocking upset a few weeks ago where William Floyd’s All-American standout Zariel Macchia lost the New York State Championship, the junior harrier was not to be denied Regional Glory as she competed in the prestigious Foot Locker Northeast Regional Championship and won the race handedly over the past weekend.

The William Floyd Junior won the meet that took place at the historic Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts with an impressive time of 17:13 over the 5000 meter distance this past week, guaranteeing herself a spot in the Foot Locker National Cross Country Meet that will take place at Balboa Park in San Diego, California.

Macchia has continued to be one of the very best in the nation, winning meets all over the Country including the New York State Federation Championship a week after her disappointing loss at the Public School Championships earlier in the month.

The Shirley native still should be considered as a heavy favorite for the individual title on December 9th as her familiarity and experience on the international level should make her stand out from the rest of the field when it comes down to it.
